North American Van Lines: The Best of Victoria Moving Companies
As the capital of British Columbia and a quaint port city, Victoria is a wonderful place to live for new residents. Numerous parks, a storied history, bicycle and pedestrian friendly roads and a focus on communities make Victoria a true Pacific Northwest city with loads of charm.
According to the 2011 Canadian Census, there are more than 344,000 residents living in Victoria, making it the second-most populous city in British Columbia behind Vancouver. Although it is smaller city, Victoria looks and feels like a metropolis with a population density of 495 persons per square kilometre. The unemployment rate is also relatively low compared to the rest of the province and there is a dynamic variety of industries and occupations to choose from in Victoria, according to City-Data.
Activities and Attractions in Victoria
There are many sites in Victoria that are historically relevant to British Columbia and Canada, and one of the most famous is Craigdarroch Castle. Also known as "Canada's Castle," this beautiful mansion was built by a coal baron in the 19th century and is just a short walk from the Victoria harbour. There are 39 rooms and 20,000 square feet of gorgeous late 19th century architecture to gaze at here.
The Royal BC Museum is considered one of the cultural havens of the province and focuses on the customs, history and language of the British Columbia region. This could be a great place to learn about your new home, as the museum houses many exhibits on the region's natural and human histories.
Beacon Hill Park is another major attraction in Victoria and is considered the "crowning jewel" in the city's park system. Here you can enjoy flowering gardens, paragliding, sailboarding and strolling through the peaceful paths.
